In Montauk

Production Notes

"In Montauk" is a story I've been writing on and off for five years. A year ago, my Director of Photography, Brian Dilg, said he thought you could shoot a feature like a doc, using available lighting and it would look really great and it could be done quickly. I'd been a film snob for years, but saw his doc and believed him. We agreed that it had to be a script with just a few locations and a few actors. So, I dusted off "In Montauk," re-imagined one of the main characters and based him on my friend, Lukas Hassel, who is not only an actor, but a writer and director himself. Technology changed even more in that year. Canon came out with the 7D. Brian bought it. Now, the film would be digital, but 35mm. We ran some tests. I worked on the script. Originally planning to shoot in February or March, I found out that I would lose my location to construction in January. After a private reading in New York on November 10, I discussed it with co-producer, Jeremiah Kipp, Brian and Lukas and decided to go for it. Our pre-production lasted a month for the Montauk piece and 80% of the film was shot in 7 days. I'm so proud of what my small cast and crew accomplished and can't wait to be able to show you the finished product.

Hoping to give myself time after the 1st part of the shoot, I started planning what I thought was a month ahead, when Nina called me and said, "I have to be back in LA in two weeks!"
